The Catholic Defender: Litany For Liberty

The 4th of July is an opportunity for us to pray for this great Nation of ours to push back the wave of Secularism that is heading us towards tyrenny. May God renew our strength to stand for Him in these times of distress.

Christ the Lord has called us out of darkness into his marvelous light. Let us turn to him in humble but fervent petition, seeking the grace to root out from our hearts all trace of darkness, and all that holds us back from walking in the full freedom of the children of God. As Christ is our great model for that inner freedom, which enables us to do the right, let us turn to him with confidence that we, too, may follow him to the fullness of spiritual freedom.

Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy.

Jesus, victor over sin and death... Free our hearts
Jesus, source of light and hope...
Jesus, fullness of truth and mystery...
Jesus, teacher of seeking hearts...
Jesus, healer of body and soul...
Jesus, bringer of mercy and justice...
Jesus, who humble the heart and mind...
Jesus, realease of captives...
Jesus, voice against violence...
Jesus, courage for the lowly/downtrodden...
Jesus, origin of all authority and power...
Jesus, true lawgiver...
Jesus, unity of order and passion...

For the freedom to love... Give us your grace.
For the freedom to believe...
For the freedom to hope...
For the freedom to worship...
For the freedom to serve in charity...
For the freedom to care for the suffering...
For the freedom to comfort the sick...
For the freedom to feed the hungry...
For the freedom to shelter the homeless...
For the freedom to proclaim the Gospel...
For the freedom to walk in chastity...
For the freedom to live in peace...
For the freedom to work in good conscience...
For the freedom to stand in solidarity...
For the freedom to seek justice...

For the freedom to reject sin...
For the freedom to reject coercion...
For the freedom to reject falsehood...
For the freedom to reject injustice...

O God, who gave one origin to all peoples and willed to gather from them one family for yourself, fill all hearts, we pray, with the fire of your love and kindle in them a desire for the just advancement of their neighbor, that, through the good things which you richly bestow upon all, each human person may be brought to perfection, every division may be removed, and equity and justice may be established in human society. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen.

O God our Creator, from your provident hand we have received our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. You have called us as your people and given us the right and the duty to worship you, the only true God, and your Son, Jesus Christ. Through the power and working of your Holy Spirit, you call us to live out our faith in the midst of the world, bringing the light and the saving truth of the Gospel to every corner of society.

We ask you to bless us in our vigilance for the gift of religious liberty. Give us the strength of mind and heart to readily defend our freedoms and when they are threatened; give us courage in making our voices heard on behalf of the rights of your Church and the freedom of conscience of all people of faith.

Grant, we pray, O heavenly Father, a clear and united voice to all your sons and daughters gathered in your Church in this decisive hour in the history of our nation, so that, with every trial withstood and every danger overcome for the sake of our children, our grandchildren, and all who come after us, this great land will always be "one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

We at deepertruth want to wish everyone a blessed 4th of July, if you are traveling, may the Angel of God go before you for safety, may this Nation once again become the beacon of liberty and freedom. True liberty is to be able to worship God in freedom.

The Catholic Defender: Wreck On 190

It was early in the morning, I was traveling west on 190 entering into Copperas Cove.

I had just arrived when I came upon an accident that had just happened moments before.

I immediately pulled into a parking lot and ran to the scene.

The old Combat Medic in me just came out along with the experience I have in these kinds of things.

After a quick observation on the scene, I had the one gentleman maintain traction on the neck of the Lady who was sitting down.

The risk of injury is too high not to maintain traction in accidents like this. I began making quick assessments as we waited for the police and the paramedics to arrive.

The scene at this point was not safe in that there were three lanes backing up traffic and we were blocking traffic because of the wreck.

There were two cars involved, it looked like both cars might be totalled, looked like a lot of damage. Another former miitary medic also stopped and I had him with the other driver who had facial injuries but was alert.

The Lady sitting on the street with traction appeared upset and I wanted to check for her ability to move her fingers and toes, if she had any numbness or tingling which in this case, she seemed alright.

It wasn't long before medical help arrived and they placed the lady on the long board and secured her. As first responders, we developed a scene that was safe and the Paramedics did a great job in getting the injured out of there.

The police did a good job doing what they do. Unfortunately, someone is going to be responsible, but for that time, ensuring that everyone is ok is the first concern.

Once everything was secure, I thanked those who stopped and helped developing a safe scene and responding to help those in need.  Then I left the scene knowing that everything was under control.

You never know when you might find yourself in a situation that might require for you to act and make decisions. 

This morning was certainly not a planned event, it just happened.  Our Faith is important as well as our training for such events.

How many times do we come upon a situation where there are walking wounded.  You can find them everywhere.  It is important that we respond when the situation presents itself. 

Tack and confidence is important, but it is very important that we make a good assessment of the scene.  Has the person been away from the Church for a long time? Where are they coming from about the Church. 

Are they simply indifferent or are they hostile? This makes a difference in how you respond.  St. Paul gives this warning, "After a first and second warning, break off contack with a heretic, realizing that such a person is perverted and sinful and stands self-condemned".

There is a point in time when the scene is not safe and your own soul could be affected.  Under extreme circumstances, all you can do is pray for them.  Also, it is best to have support with and for you. 

Alot of the time this involves familes, I was speaking before a church group and I asked them this question, "How many of you know someone, a family member, a friend, who have left the Church".  Virtually just about everyone raised their hands.

Medically speaking, this would be an epidemic. 

We really need to be able to create a positive scene to help solve these problems. 

We have actively been working on this issue one person at a time and we prayerfully ask for support for Deepertruth.

We pray for Catholic Answers with Tim Staples and Jimmy Akins, those guys are giants in Catholic Apologetics, we also pray for Steve Ray and Defenders of the Catholic Faith. 

I'm still a member over there as well and a lot of good happens there.

We also see the good work done by Catholics Come Home and EWTN in reaching out to save a generation.  Being open to the work of the Holy Spirit.

There are a lot of good Catholic organizations out there creating a "safe scene" to help the walking wounded. 

Last night on Deepertruth, Ross and Margie hosted the Catholic Roundtable and interviewed Steve Dawson and others representing St. Paul's Street Evangelization. 

This was a great show as we are seeing gang members coming home to the Catholic Faith.

Christie Martin has been doing great things with the Garden of Holiness show on Deepertruth, great interviews and resources to build up the faith. 

Freedom is a great gift, James 1:22-25 states, "Be doers of the word and not hearers only, deluding yourselves.  For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his own face in a mirror.  He sees himself, then goes off and promply forgets what he looked like.  But the one who peers into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres, and is not a hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, such a one shall be blessed in what he does."

True liberty is the freedom to worship God in freedom.  To take off the shackles that bind us into sin and captivity.

Sometimes we might come along and run into a wrecked life, maybe they are hurting because of divorce. 

Maybe they have been involved in gangs, on drugs, sexual promiscuity, low self esteem.  Maybe they simply have been mislead. 

If you should happen along on such a wrecked life, are you willing to stop and render assistance to help those in need? Or will you simply drive on and leave it for someone else?

Spiritual first responders are so very important at least until spiritual help comes along, you just might help save a life.

Catholic Defender: This Is Freedom


Consider the following statement: 

Dr. Melissa Harris-Perry of MSNBC, a Professor of political science at Tulane University, states the “private idea that kids belong to their parents or kids belong to their families,” and instead institute a “collective notion” that kids “are our children,” they belong to the community.

We have never invested as much in public education as we should have because we’ve always had kind of a private notion of children: your kid is yours and totally your responsibility. We haven’t had a very collective notion of these are our children.

So part of it is we have to break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents or kids belong to their families, and recognize that kids belong to whole communities,”

Once it’s everybody’s responsibility and not just the household’s, then we start making better investments,”

Is this freedom? Is this where our Country is heading? Do we really stand for the Red, White, and Blue today?

The perfect law of freedom is built upon the shore of true liberty where God is worshiped in true freedom.  More than 1,300,000 people have died defending this very basic right to stand on that "perfect law" of liberty.

Today, there are those who want to forsake the Bill of Rights and the Constitution of the United States opening us up for what President Reagan called "A thousand years of darkness".  

America is the last bastion of freedom in the world.

Where do we go should America fall? What happens should America fall from within.  

What was a threat 20 years ago seems to be everywhere today knocking down the wall of freedom one inch at a time.  

They first took the scripture and prayer out of public school, based in the Secularist view of "Separation of Church and State", which does not exist in the American Constitution.  

The Baptist Dansberry Association asked Thomas Jefferson who would be the State Church of the Land.  Jefferson responded that there would be no State Church, but each person would have the right to practice their faith. 

There has been a systematic attempt to erode our Nations Christian foundations, so much so that President Obama says "America is not a Christian Country".

He plans to widen the gap between faith and tradition from the American establishment.

I remember in the 1970's when nobody worked on Sunday because American's honored God's Commands, this was our foundation.  

Christmas break is now "Winter Break" and Holy Week is no longer part of "Spring Break".  

In todays public schools the progressives seek to eradicate anything Christian.  Our institutions have renounced our history accepting homosexuality, Abortion, and Artificial Birth Control just to name a few.

Luke 4:18-19 states, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor.  He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord".

By virtue of our Baptismal and Confirmational vows, we are call by the Spirit of the Lord, to proclaim liberty to the captives.

The Church must not waiver during this crisis in America today.

The Catholic Church is celebrating a year of faith giving us the opportunity to get back to the basics.

Then the year of evangelization will begin.  This is what true freedom really is.

To be free to live a love honoring God's Commands, To be free to help those in need, to help the sick, to heal the broken hearted, to visit the prisoner, to be free of sin. Freedom to lead our families and raise our Children to honor God and His Church.

We need to trust in God and have courage to pass through tomorrow the freedom that has been given to us. One Nation under God, this is freedom.


"Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it on to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States where men were free."

Address to the annual meeting of the Phoenix Chamber of Commerce, (30 March 1961)

"We'll preserve for our children this, the last best hope of man on earth, or we'll sentence them to take the last step into a thousand years of darkness."

Next time you see a veteran, tell them thanks for their sacrifice for freedom.  The following is taken from the movie, "Last Ounce of Courage", a truly inspiring movie.  I highly encourage you to watch this.  Here at Deepertruth, we have a true member who was attacked by the ACLU, Dr. Gregory Thompson.  He chose freedom over their bondage.

The Catholic Defender: Freedom

One of the most important words from the movie "Braveheart" that penetrate the core of the movie was when William Wallace (Mel Gibson) yells out "Freedom" during immense torture.

The people watching were reduced to silence because of the impact of how important "Freedom" meant.

I was needing to get gas for my Ford Expedition when I was confronted to the high price of gasoline.

The thought "Freedom" came to mind as I see these high prices limiting our freedom of movement.

It seems that everything is hitting our economy all at once. This is certainly restricting many accross the Country.

The political will today seems to be hurting job creation along with transportation. The economic crisis is hurting family trips and vacations.

Small family businesses seem to be hurting the most because people are not buying as much. People are also getting more in credit card debt which will hurt their buying power eventually.

Our Nation is 15 Trillion dollars in debt, 40% of the dollar pays for interest to China. That is not a good situation for us at all.

We are enslaving our Grandchildren with this massive debt. Yet our political will is to keep spending more than we take in revenue.

You don't have to be an economist to know this is a slippery slope to the problems of Greece if we do not turn things around.

Another problem I see attacking "freedom" is the political will to attack the Catholic Faith.

Regardless if you are Catholic or not, what Washinton is wanting to do should concern you. The United States Constitution is bedrock in providing "freedom" of religion.

Yet, if the Government can reduce your freedom to only following the Government, we are moved by the State and not faith.

Whenever this has happened, tyranny is the result. The Progressives in our Country want to destroy or limit your freedom.

My Brigade Chaplain warned me while in Iraq that the Homosexual lobby has already approached the Chaplains telling them they would have to modify what they preach from the pulpit.

This is a great attack on religious freedom as Soldiers have no voice. Chaplains are being weighed down with many Christian Soldiers who are being harrassed by the politics being implimented in the ranks.

The recent attack on the Catholic Church by the Obama Administration trying to force The Church to yield to the power of the Health and Human Services Organization is an attack on the Constitution and our freedom.

Yet, people are acting like a mouse in a maze not suspecting the snake peering around the next module.

What is awaiting us around the next module? Recently, Obama was speaking with a leader of Russia not aware that a mike was picking up their conversation.

Obama was clear that he expects to win the next election and if he does, he would not have the hurdles on him that he does now.

What further freedoms does Obama plan to smash? What defense secrets is he willing to hand out?

St. Paul gives us this encouragement, "For this momentary light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to what is seen but to what is unseen; for what is seen is transitory, but what is unseen is eternal" (2 Corinthians 4:17-18).

What it takes for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing. Like the mouse cought in a maze, we have the chance to correct and stand up for our rights.

I was watching Fox News and learned that some Catholic Bishops were not thrilled about the "Paul Ryan Plan" which is designed to set our Country on a course to help get us on the right track.

My concern here is that we are becoming more and more dependent to the Government for everything.

That has never worked any time nor anywhere. A Nanny State where nearly 40% of our people are on foodstamps is not good for our economy. Especially when this particular Administration plans to limit the power of the Church.
