Of all the people in my life who stun me and amaze me, there are none so exasperating and puzzling as myself. In every crisis, I find myself falling into the same traps, "shioning" God for the same reasons. Why must I learn the same lesson over and over!?

Depression. In a nutshell, plain, old-fashioned self pity. Ok. I'm out of work. It sucks. Two thoughts; 1) Yes, I am doing everything I absolutely can to fix the situation. 2) A lot of people are in this situation. There! Do you feel better now? Um...not really.

Humiliation. Nothing short of poison ivy gets under our skin more than being brought low by someone who you think everyone should be able to see through. The stark and cold realization that, while you thought you were a serious player , you were merely a pawn, easily taken out by someone far more skilled at playing the game than you will ever be.Face it, little fish, you were way out of your pond.

Trepidation. In other words, paralysis. Almost makes you think it would even be better to do something wrong then to remain here frozen in place like a big old iceberg. Simple moral cowardice, not to put too fine a point on it.

Rationalization. Oh, to be free of this one! You know? "It's not my fault because because because because because....." and, no, it's not because of the wonderful things he does.

Hibernation. See #1. Withdraw. Sure, that's the answer! Cut yourself off from the very people who are your lifeline and connection to heavenly support.How is that working for ya?

Resignation. Despair. "I quit", "I give up", "It's not worth it", "Why do I even try". Oh, trust me, I have a million of them. It is all summed up in a pretty basic childhood response, juxtaposed onto life. "Okay, this isn't fun anymore, I don't want to play". Of course, once I reach #6, #7 is almost sure to follow.....

Alleviation. Please note that copious doses of #4 may be required. "I just came back to see what condition my condition was in". Ah, yes. I have become comfortably numb. I just needed a little something (insert addiction here) for the pain.

Have you ever witnessed something that defies logic?
Something that really shocked you in disbelief?
When I worked at the New Orleans MEPS, I remember one particular morning I'll never forget.
I placed my keys and wallet in or on my desk before going out to conduct Physical Training.
This was what I would ordinarily do each morning because I wanted secure these items. So this day began without anything extra ordinary, but this would change.
When I came back, we were knee deep in Applicants who were preparing to go on the floor. The Physician will observe movements making sure that the Applicants are able to perform simple exercises.
Since I was in my PT clothes, I wanted to help get them in and out so they could go through their processing in the MEPS.
I helped out with the physicals until almost noon when I went back into my office to shower and change into my uniform.
After taking care of myself, I went to my office because I had an important meeting to attend.
To my surprise, I could not find my keys. I began looking everywhere for them.
I asked everyone to include going to the other sections in the MEPS, but to no avail.
I could not find the keys. At the end of the day, I ended up having to get a ride home with a friend.
We would have to cross over the Mississippi bridge and it was about a 30 minute drive to the Belle Chase Naval Base where we lived.
My wife Gigi and Matt actually went back to pick up
the jeep to bring it home. That was a major frustration to lose those keys.
The next day, I had to borrow Gigi's keys to drive the jeep to work. During the day, despite all efforts, I still could not find the keys and so another day passed and I was about to think the keys were gone for good.
On the third day, I still did not find the keys and I still had to borrow Gigi's set of keys to drive the jeep.
It was about noon when I left the MEPS to go make a run down to the National Guard Clothing Sales to get some things for Class A's.
On my way back I debated where I was going to get lunch. I thought about McDonald's that was up on the right about a mile.
I thought about eating something from Taco Bell, but as I drove on I decided to stop at Kentucky Fried Chicken.
I literally turned in on a dime as it was just the spur of the moment.
At this point, I did not know I was going to pull in there until that last moment.
I drove up to the take out window and placed my order, then I drove around to the window and paid my bill.
I basically sat there and waited for my paid lunch.
I was still frustrated about losing my keys, I just knew they were placed on my desk by me.
It was about this point I recalled St. Anthony being the Patron of lost and found articles.
I kind of wondered why I had not thought about St. Anthony before now, so I said one word to St. Anthony, "help".
What happens next was a complete surprise. It was at this time a stranger walked up from behind my vehicle and up to my drivers side window right next to me.
He was someone I never seen before, He was a civilian dressed in blue jeans with a beard and long hair and asked me if these were my keys?
He handed me these keys and I instantly recognized them as my keys.
I was completely dumbfounded. I was stunned to say the least, I looked up and he was gone.
I was shocked as I sat there at Kentucky Fried Chicken, with my keys that I hadn't seen in three days, right in my hands.
Nobody, not even me knew that I was going to be there when I was there. I almost decided to go up the road to McDonald's for a hamburger but at the last second turned in where I turned in.
The individual was civilian, would never had been on an Military base, and didn't know me from Adam.
Shocked with my keys in hand, the stranger was gone as quickly as he came. I called Gigi to let her know what just happened and she thought I was high on something.
I now really need another miracle to find my medical health records as they have disappeared, I need them in three days. St. Anthony, Help!
I recall Hebrews 13:2-3, "Do not neglect hospitality, for through it some have unkowingly entertained angels." Well, sometimes the Lord uses His Saints too!

It was early in the morning, I was traveling west on 190 entering into Copperas Cove.
I had just arrived when I came upon an accident that had just happened moments before.
I immediately pulled into a parking lot and ran to the scene.
The old Combat Medic in me just came out along with the experience I have in these kinds of things.
After a quick observation on the scene, I had the one gentleman maintain traction on the neck of the Lady who was sitting down.
The risk of injury is too high not to maintain traction in accidents like this. I began making quick assessments as we waited for the police and the paramedics to arrive.
The scene at this point was not safe in that there were three lanes backing up traffic and we were blocking traffic because of the wreck.
There were two cars involved, it looked like both cars might be totalled, looked like a lot of damage. Another former miitary medic also stopped and I had him with the other driver who had facial injuries but was alert.
The Lady sitting on the street with traction appeared upset and I wanted to check for her ability to move her fingers and toes, if she had any numbness or tingling which in this case, she seemed alright.
It wasn't long before medical help arrived and they placed the lady on the long board and secured her. As first responders, we developed a scene that was safe and the Paramedics did a great job in getting the injured out of there.
The police did a good job doing what they do. Unfortunately, someone is going to be responsible, but for that time, ensuring that everyone is ok is the first concern.
Once everything was secure, I thanked those who stopped and helped developing a safe scene and responding to help those in need. Then I left the scene knowing that everything was under control.
You never know when you might find yourself in a situation that might require for you to act and make decisions.
This morning was certainly not a planned event, it just happened. Our Faith is important as well as our training for such events.
How many times do we come upon a situation where there are walking wounded. You can find them everywhere. It is important that we respond when the situation presents itself.
Tack and confidence is important, but it is very important that we make a good assessment of the scene. Has the person been away from the Church for a long time? Where are they coming from about the Church.
Are they simply indifferent or are they hostile? This makes a difference in how you respond. St. Paul gives this warning, "After a first and second warning, break off contack with a heretic, realizing that such a person is perverted and sinful and stands self-condemned".
There is a point in time when the scene is not safe and your own soul could be affected. Under extreme circumstances, all you can do is pray for them. Also, it is best to have support with and for you.
Alot of the time this involves familes, I was speaking before a church group and I asked them this question, "How many of you know someone, a family member, a friend, who have left the Church". Virtually just about everyone raised their hands.
Medically speaking, this would be an epidemic.
We really need to be able to create a positive scene to help solve these problems.
We have actively been working on this issue one person at a time and we prayerfully ask for support for Deepertruth.
We pray for Catholic Answers with Tim Staples and Jimmy Akins, those guys are giants in Catholic Apologetics, we also pray for Steve Ray and Defenders of the Catholic Faith.
I'm still a member over there as well and a lot of good happens there.
We also see the good work done by Catholics Come Home and EWTN in reaching out to save a generation. Being open to the work of the Holy Spirit.
There are a lot of good Catholic organizations out there creating a "safe scene" to help the walking wounded.
Last night on Deepertruth, Ross and Margie hosted the Catholic Roundtable and interviewed Steve Dawson and others representing St. Paul's Street Evangelization.
This was a great show as we are seeing gang members coming home to the Catholic Faith.
Christie Martin has been doing great things with the Garden of Holiness show on Deepertruth, great interviews and resources to build up the faith.
Freedom is a great gift, James 1:22-25 states, "Be doers of the word and not hearers only, deluding yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his own face in a mirror. He sees himself, then goes off and promply forgets what he looked like. But the one who peers into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres, and is not a hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, such a one shall be blessed in what he does."
True liberty is the freedom to worship God in freedom. To take off the shackles that bind us into sin and captivity.
Sometimes we might come along and run into a wrecked life, maybe they are hurting because of divorce.
Maybe they have been involved in gangs, on drugs, sexual promiscuity, low self esteem. Maybe they simply have been mislead.
If you should happen along on such a wrecked life, are you willing to stop and render assistance to help those in need? Or will you simply drive on and leave it for someone else?
Spiritual first responders are so very important at least until spiritual help comes along, you just might help save a life.
Today started out about like any usual day that I find myself off from work.
I'm moving around starting my day out right, I go to a local Mexican Resturant to order a great breakfest.
I am preparing to go to the Temple VA to place a resume for a new position.
But before I go, I have to stop by the local library and print off my resume and DD form 2-14 which is an account of my Military record.
While I am there the Librarian stops by my computer and so I am compelled to share with her our Deepertruthblog website.
As she looked at the the computer, she was surprized to notice this was a Catholic site.
I was able to explain to her where we got the name!
Luke 5:4, Jesus said, "Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch", In doing so, "they caught a great number of fish and their nets were tearing".
We take ourselves out into the deep where we can cast out our nets so we can delve deeply into the great mysteries and treasures of our holy Faith.
In our net, we have 153 fish counted representing all the nations, tribes and peoples of all of the earth. And this net, this net is without a tear, no schism!
How wonderful is the Lord in the great love he has for us.
At this the Librarian was surprized in that she was not used to a Catholic bearing witness for their faith.
She was used to the Jehovah's Witnesses or the Mormons, but I was able to share with her the importance of restoring the prodigals back to holy Mother Church, the Catholic Church.
At this point, she admitted to me that she was raised a Catholic, but had not been practicing it for a good while.
She demonstrated an interest in the Methodist church, and I told her in response, the Methodist began in 1791, who were they in 1790? They really did not come into being until after the death of John Wesley, but in truth, the Methodist churches begin as a result of the Revolutionary War.
I asked her who founded the Catholic Faith. She shook her head not knowing who founded the Catholic Church.
To me this is key; I responded that Jesus Christ Himself founded the Catholic Faith and that He promised the gates of hell would not prevail against the Church, that he would remain with it until He returns at the Parousia.
Very importantly, we have been given the Holy Spirit to guide the Church until that time. What a great blessing we have receiving the grace of God through His holy Catholic Church.
At this the Librarian became very interested in what I was saying. I explained the importantce of going to Confession.
When you go to Confession, the Lord takes those sins and he throws them into the sea of forgetfulness and He remembers them no more.
In the confessional, you receive a judgment of mercy and with penance, you recieve great grace.
Then I explained to her the importance of receiving the Eucharist.
We have on every Catholic Altar where Mass is being offered, the true presence of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity.
We receive the whole person of Jesus renewing the Covenant that is centered on the Eucharist. The importance Jesus places on this Covenant is critical to Salvation.
Jesus states, "This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live forever" (John 6:58).
Like the Librarian, I have testified this truth on countless occasions and many people have responded very openly and positively to this.
Some were 180 degrees opposed to the Catholic faith based on how they were raised.
I've had some that were sent to a Baptist military like school, how wonderful it was to see them received into the Catholic Faith!
The Librarian began to respond with interest in what I was saying.
She began to respond positively to the message given, she liked our website, www.deepertruthblog.com and asked me to write this down for her. She is going to check this out!
I gave her all my personal information so she would have opportunity to contact me if she would like. At this time she seemed really liberated and opened herself up to the truth I was giving her.
I encouraged her to make the Mass the center of her life, and for her, the Catholic Church is just right down the street.
"The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me; He has sent me to bring glad tidings to the lowly, to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives and release to the prisoners, To announce a year of favor from the Lord and a day of vindication by our God, to comfort all who mourn; To place on those who mourn in Zion a diadem instead of ashes, To give them oil of gladness in place of mourning, a glorious mantle instead of a listless spirit" (Isaiah 61:1-3).
We see this scripture fulfilled at the baptism of Jesus. It is at this point that Jesus begins His public ministry.
The Gospel of Matthew records what happens, "The Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. John tried to prevent him saying, 'I need to be baptized by you, and yet you are coming to me?' Jesus said to him in reply, 'Allow it now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.' Then he allowed him. After Jesus was baptized, he came up from the water and behold, the heavens were opened for him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming upon him. And a voice came from the heavens, saying 'This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased " (Matthew 3:13-17).
This is a most important connection that St. Matthew reveals because Jesus is truly the Messiah that Isaiah bore witness to.
This scene in Matthew is also important because we see a glimpse of the Trinity, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
We will again see this image at the Transfiguration (Matthew 17:1-8). After the Resurrection, Jesus will send the Catholic Church to go to all the nations to baptize in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19).
This is important for all of God's people because we have the means to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit through our own Baptism (Acts 2:38) and receive the power of the Holy Spirit through the "laying of hands" (Hebrews 6:2).
St. Paul instructs St. Timothy, "Do not lay hands too readily on anyone, and do not share in another's sin. Keep yourself pure (1 Timothy 5:22).
Why do we see this caution from St. Paul? St. Paul's letter to the Colossians is key!
He writes, "Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ on behalf of his body, which is the church, of which I am a minister in accordance with God's stewardship given to me to bring to completion for you the word of God, the mystery hidden from ages and from generations past. But now it has been manifested to his holy ones, to whom God chose to make known the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; it is Christ in you, the hope for glory. It is he whom we proclaim, admonishing everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone perfect in Christ. For this I labor and struggle, in accord with the exercise of his power working within me" (Colossians 1:24-29).
St. Paul is instructing us to prepare our converts, preparing them to receive the gift and power of the Holy Spirit. St. Timothy is instructed not to "lay hands" too readily.
They must be prepared and instructed in the Faith.
St. Paul says "The aim of this instruction is love from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith" (1 Timothy 1:5).
Regardless if you are a catechuman, a candidate, or you are a life long Catholic, the Church calls us to take self inventory.
Jesus was tempted, He began His public Ministry being "led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil" (Matthew 4:1).
The 40 days has a symbolic meaning for Christians. We see the Israelites wandering in the desert for 40 years.
Jonah warned the Ninevites that God would destroy the great city in 40 days (Jonah 3:4) and the people responded by covering themselves with sackcloth and ashes.
God spared them because of their repentance. Ash Wednesday is the beginning of Lent, a 40 day season of the Church.
It is at the Easter Vigil that millions around the world are be recieved into the Catholic Faith. Catechumans are baptized and along with the Candidates, are confirmed into the Catholic Faith.
They will receive the Eucharist and share at the Table of Plenty with the whole Church!
Ascension Thursday is so important because it is the birth of the Papacy.
Daniel 7:13-14 states, "As the visions during the night continued, I saw One like a son of man coming, on the clouds of heaven; When he reached the Ancient One and was presented before him, He received dominion, glory, and kingship; nations and peoples of every language serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not be taken away, his kingship shall not be destroyed."
Consider what Jesus Promised to St. Peter, "Blessed are you Simon son of Bar-Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter (Kapa), and upon this rock (Kapa) I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and what ever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven" (Matthew 16:17-19).
Consider Jesus, the Son of Man, giving the keys to his "Royal Stewart" once He received this dominion at the appointed time with the Ascension of Jesus.
Jesus is the stone that destoys the great statue of Babylon. "In the lifetime of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that shall never be destoyed or delivered up to another people".
"Be watchful (keep your eyes open), stand firm in your faith, be courageous, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love". 1 Corinthians 16:13-14
Proverbs 20:13: "Love not sleep, lest you be reduced to poverty; eyes wide open mean abundant food".
Matthew 25:13 states, "Therefore, stay awake, for you know neither the day nor the hour."
There is the constant theme that we are to keep our eyes open, to keep watch and to stand firm in our faith.
In today's world, it seems that compromise is everywhere. People are totally all over the board not caring much for the Word of the Lord. Who is listening? Who is awake?
This is one of the important missions of the Shephards of the Church, to stay awake and protect the flock from preditors.
Young David told King Saul, "Your servant used to tend his father's sheep, and whenever a lion or bear came to carry off a sheep from the flock, I would go after it and attack it and rescue the prey from it's mouth. If it attacked me, I would seize it by the jaw, strike it, and kill it. Your servant has killed both a lion and a bear, and the uncircumcised Philistine will be as one of them, because he has insulted the armies of the living God" (1 Samuel 17:34-37).
Similarly, Job states, "Whoever heard of me blessed me: those who saw me commended me. For I rescued the poor who cried out for help, the orphans, and the unassisted; the blessing of those in extremity came upon me, and the heart of the widow I made joyful. I wore my honesty like a garment; justice was my robe and my turban. I was eyes to the blind, and feet to the lame was I; I was a father to the needy; the rights of the stranger I studied, and I broke the jaws of the wicked man; from his teeth I forced the prey" (Job 29:11-17).
Job went out and sought the Lord's work. He was not apathetic to the needs around him and he was a champion to those oppressed.
Like David and Job, St. Peter and his successors are called to protect the sheep even those within the clutches of the lion and bear.
We are to stand up for the Lord's justice aganst injustice, even when the evil is coming from those of authority.
Jesus states, "Behold, I am sending you like sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and simple as doves. But beware of people, for they will hand you over to courts and scourge you in their synagogues, and you will be led before governors and kings for my sake as a witness before them and the pagans. When they hand you over, do not worry about how you are to speak or what you are to say. You will be given at that moment what you are to say. For it will not be you who speak but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you"
(Matthew 10:16). Consider Zechariah 4:6, "Then the Lord says, "Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts."
If we had the faith the size of a mustard seed, we could move mountains, we must stay alert and keep our eyes open. To keep watch and not to let go of the wheel.
Our generation has fallen asleep, the Church is seen like a "sleeping giant".
There are something like 70 million Catholics in the United States, could you imagine what would happen should the Church ever wake up?
We could end abortion, strengthen true marriage, bring back the family unit. Bring back a culture of life and respect and honor of God.
Fathers, it is time that we stand up for our Faith, to love our wives and Children.
Children are more likely to hold on their Faith when Catholic Fathers are faithful.
Over 90% of the children compared to about 35% when the Mother is trying to do it all.
We cannot continue to be a sleeping giant if we are going to have a chance of returning America back to God.
Lets not fall asleep at the wheel or we might end up just like Yadkin in this video.
On July 29, 1775, the Continental Congress established the military chaplaincy.
At that time, a Chaplain received $20 pay per month, and provided “forage for one horse.”
Gen George Washington issued this order at Valley Forge on May 2, 1778: “The Commander-in-Chief directs that divine services be performed every Sunday at eleven o’clock in each bridge which has chaplains…While we are duly performing the duty of good soldiers, we are not to be inattentive to the highest duties of religion.”
From the very beginning, when the Colonials went to war with Great Britain, Chaplains were vital for the moral of the troops.
President Ronald Reagan once said, "Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States where men were free"
President Reagan also had said, “The nine most terrifying words in the English language are... I'm from the government and I'm here to help.”
Ladies and Gentlemen, my heart is deeply saddened today as my wife (Gigi) told me of what is being reported by the News Media of the current President's intent to erode Faith in America. Gigi heard this story on Sean Hannity today and so I looked into the problem.

Pentegon May Court Martial Soldiers Who Share Christian Faith
The Pentagon has released a statement confirming that soldiers could be prosecuted for promoting their faith: "Religious proselytization is not permitted within the Department of Defense...Court martials and non-judicial punishments are decided on a case-by-case basis...”.
The statement, released to Fox News, follows a Breitbart News report on Obama administration Pentagon appointees meeting with anti-Christian extremist Mikey Weinstein to develop court-martial procedures to punish Christians in the military who express or share their faith.
(From our earlier report: Weinstein is the head of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, and says Christians--including chaplains--sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ in the military are guilty of “treason,” and of committing an act of “spiritual rape” as serious a crime as “sexual assault.” He also asserted that Christians sharing their faith in the military are “enemies of the Constitution.”)
Being convicted in a court martial means that a soldier has committed a crime under federal military law. Punishment for a court martial can include imprisonment and being dishonorably discharged from the military.
So President Barack Obama’s civilian appointees who lead the Pentagon are confirming that the military will make it a crime--possibly resulting in imprisonment--for those in uniform to share their faith. This would include chaplains—military officers who are ordained clergymen of their faith (mostly Christian pastors or priests, or Jewish rabbis)--whose duty since the founding of the U.S. military under George Washington is to teach their faith and minister to the spiritual needs of troops who come to them for counsel, instruction, or comfort.
This regulation would severely limit expressions of faith in the military, even on a one-to-one basis between close friends. It could also effectively abolish the position of chaplain in the military, as it would not allow chaplains (or any service members, for that matter), to say anything about their faith that others say led them to think they were being encouraged to make faith part of their life. It’s difficult to imagine how a member of the clergy could give spiritual counseling without saying anything that might be perceived in that fashion.
In response to the Pentagon’s plans, retired Lt. Gen. Jerry Boykin, who is now executive vice president of the Family Research Council (FRC), said on Fox & Friends Wednesday morning:
It’s a matter of what do they mean by "proselytizing." ...I think they’ve got their defintions a little confused. If you’re talking about coercion that’s one thing, but if you’re talking about the free exercise of our faith as individual soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines, especially for the chaplains, they I think the worst thing we can do is stop the ability for a soldier to be able to exercise his faith.”
FRC has launched a petition here which has already collected over 30,000 signatures, calling on Secretary Hagel is stop working with Weinstein and his anti-Christian organization to develop military policy regarding religious faith.

I want to encourage any and all to a call of arms to speak out against this attack on our Country. The ultra left is working to call practicing Christians "treason". They equate Christian living with sexual assault? This is so bizarre it is hard to believe the Pentegon is involved in this?
