There is a temptation to see ordinary time as meaningless time. That would be a mistake. In a life that spans only about 70 years or so, no days are meaningless. As the Bible says, This is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2).
There is an old limerick about 4 persons named Somebody, Anybody, Everybody and Nobody. It goes like this;
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.Just remember this, God sees Everybody. Nobody can hide from Him. Anybody can be Somebody but not Everybody.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done
Ordinary people, doing ordinary things, in ordinary time is the glue that holds all things together. We need to show compassion in all the seasons of the year and we need to strive for holiness in each of the days we are allotted. We do not know how many or how few of them there will be. This we do know, however, there will come a day when those days do run out.
One Rosary, One Mass, and One good turn won't get you to heaven. You should not expect one season to. Take another step today.
