7 Quick takes Friday the 13th

Today's 7 quick takes will implement 2 changes. The first change, for this one time only, will honor Friday the 13th by counting down- from 7 to 1- the silliest superstitions anti-catholics have about catholics. The second change is the countdown format itself, which will be a permanent change.

Christmas is taken from Pagan festivals

The most common festival named is Saturnalia, a week-long festival of Roman debauchery. The first problem with this is that Saturnalia ran from December 17th to the 22nd. Christmas is on December 25th.

When documents were recovered from the sacked Jerusalem Temple, they confirmed that the temple rotation began on the 9th of AV (the same date the temple was destroyed both in 587 BC and 70 AD).

This mean that Zechariah's legendary encounter with Gabriel occurred on Yom Kippur . This puts us at about September 25, 3 BC. The Annunciation (The Angel's visit to Mary occurred 6 months later (about March 25). Move forward 9 months later and you arrive at December 25th. I encourage you to watch our video. December 25th is the correct date according to the evidence.

The Catholic church is the Whore of Babylon/The Pope is the antichrist
This can be refuted by the plain words of scripture. The Whore of Babylon is described as the great city that rules (present tense) over the world in John's time. (Rev 17:18) This means the religious world. This is as opposed to the pagan world ruled by the 'Kings of the earth'. It is this religious city that plays the harlot with these kings. Rev 11:8 clearly tells us that this city is Jerusalem.

Just as Rev 18:24 tells us that it is the city that killed the prophets, so does Matthew 23:37 and Luke 13:33 tell us that Jerusalem is that city. Exodus 25-28 gives us our purple and scarlet yarn, precious stones and even our golden cups.

Finally, Jerusalem sits on seven mountains.

The whore is Jerusalem.

The anti-christ is another canard. Here again, Scripture is clear as Crystal.

1 John 2:18 Children, it is the last hour, and as you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come. Therefore we know that it is the last hour. 19  They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us. 20 But you have been anointed by the Holy One, and you all have knowledge. 21 I write to you, not because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth. 22 Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son. 23  No one who denies the Son has the Father.

Two characteristics of antichrist; 1) They left the true fold (true of protestants, not Catholics), 2) They deny the Divinity of Christ and His oneness with the Father (true of Jews, not Catholics)

1 John 4:2-4

By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already. Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

 2 John 1:7
For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not confess the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh. Such a one is the deceiver and the antichrist.

Denial of the incarnation. Again, true of Jews but certainly not of any Pope.

The Jews are, in general the antichrist people and the actual antichrist will come from them. So, Zionism is actually support for the system of antichrist.

                                             The Re-Sacrifice of Jesus

Anti-catholics claim that the Mass is a re-sacrifice of Jesus. They allege that Catholics call Jesus down from heaven and hang Him back on the cross. This superstition is not only false but pretty grotesque. The Mass makes the one-time sacrifice present to us. Once again, the words of scripture are unambiguous on this matter.

John 6: 51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.” 52 The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” 53 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. 55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. 56 Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him.

1 Corinthians 10  16  The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ? 17 Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread. 18 Consider the people of Israel:[d] are not those who eat the sacrifices participants in the altar? 19 What do I imply then? That food offered to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything? 20 No, I imply that what pagans sacrifice they offer to demons and not to God. I do not want you to be participants with demons. 21  You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons. 22  Shall we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he?

1 Corinthians 11

23 For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body which is for[e] you. Do this in remembrance of me.”[f] 25 In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.
27  Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord. 28  Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself.

The Biblical case against the true presence simply cannot be made by Scripture. You either believe or you don't.

Catholic Celibacy causes child sexual abuse

This is a disgusting slander that is as grotesque as it is baseless. In Matthew 19:12, Jesus Himself proclaimed that some would be called to celibacy for the sake of the Kingdom of God. We see them in Revelation 14:4

Here are the facts according to the study by Dr. Phillip Jenkins;

Among Christian denominations, Catholics rank dead last in incidents of child sexual abuse. A protestant minister is 10 times more likely to offend, statistically. A public school employee is 10 fold more likely to defend.

Those are the facts.

Having said that, we- of course- support prosecution of anyone harming a child to the full extent of the law.

Catholics worship the Pope, Mary, Saints and Statues.
When engaging someone making these kinds of silly claims, you know it is not a serious person. Statues are made of alabaster and the Pope is just a man (and about 10 of them were bad men) and Mary and the Saints are all great examples and laborers in God's Kingdom.

Catholics worship the Father and the Son and The Holy Spirit period.

(note: in British english worship means honor. A judge is called 'your worship')
--- 2 ---
Catholics believe in earning salvation.
Rubbish. Salvation is the result of freely received Grace, through faith. The Bible is clear that we must cooperate with that grace. What Catholics believe is that you can earn damnation. The Bible is clear that Faith alone is useless (James 2, 1 Corinthians 13). It must be followed by works of love and charity, inspired and enabled by that very grace.

Catholics killed millions
You have heard the claims. 50 million, 95 million. One anti-catholic cited 400 million. These claims are not only ludicrous, they are impossible. It is a widely known fact that the black plaque, which killed about 1/3 of Europe, killed about 25 million people.

The Crusades (which were self defense) killed a total of about 1 million people on all sides and the total deaths from all the Inquisitions numbered about 6,000.

Read some credible history.
